April Lockhart
April Lockhart (born July 4, 1995) began her musical journey at the age of 7 in which she began guitar and piano classes. At the age of 12, she composed her first single, Different. The year she turned 14 was when she devoted a great deal of time to creating song concepts and practicing her music. Soon after she began taking trips to write with her father in NY and LA. April also included additional topics in her hit song, Take my Hand. These topics were meant for the friends of hers who struggled issues like peer pressure, and disabilities, or even teenage suicidal thoughts. Lockhart is a beauty and lifestyle influencer who has a growing following. She works with popular brand Ilia in partnership, and is also a specialist in lifestyle. Her birth was without a left hand, and it's an aspect of her identity, but this isn't the whole truth. So, Lockhart's Instagram page isn't afraid to talk about her disability, but the focus isn't on her disability either. It's a reminder. This is the message that we all share many identities, we're more complex than we think that we're. Lockhart has stated on video that she doesn't wish to be defined by her handicap. She does not want to be a disability advocate who only talks about that. There are many aspects of Lockhart. It doesn't impact my daily routine. I conduct my business as usual and have come up with different ways of adapting. It's also a part of my life, and I think that it is something to be talked about. Lockhart encourages us to keep going with self-acceptance. Still, she acknowledges going through phases of insecurity with her body, and also feeling uncomfortable wearing some clothing types which showed her arms. The woman now puts on whatever clothes she wishes and shares pictures on Facebook in awe. Self-love, she says is a journey. It's not clear when you'll reach the end. This is true for everyone, no matter what their degree of self-confidence. The people around you with, who know you and see inside your soul are the best people to remind you of what you're concerned about.
